On 4 June 2021, the FINA Bureau approved a set of Rules on the Protection from Harassment and Abuse (“Rules”), which are in harmony with the 2016 International Olympic Committee Consensus Statement on “Harassment and Abuse in Sport”.
These Rules are the foundation for Athlete safety, well-being and the prevention of harassment and abuse. The Rules define misconduct; create standards that set boundaries between professional and athlete members; mandatory reporting; establish a structure for investigation of complaints and their underlying circumstances; and promote greater accountability and compliance.
These Rules entered into effect on 4 June 2021 and FINA has reminded us that we must implement immediately. In particular, the Rules require that all Member Federations implement similar rules and regulations or incorporate these Rules into their rules, as modified appropriately for national-level competition and their respective jurisdictions.
To report Harassment or Abuse, send an email to: athletesconfidential@ugandaswimming.org
Or fill in this form
A new Confidential Platform and Hotline +256 702 383 115 has also been set up for this purpose and can be accessed by Athletes.
As requested by FINA the Uganda Swimming Federation has taken the necessary steps to comply with this requirement by publishing these Rules and sharing them with all our Members for noting.
The USF will modify its statutes to incorporate them and will also embark on specific awareness tasks to disseminate the Rules.
